TNAStars.com Goes Live Over the Weekend!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Over the weekend I activated a pet project of mine: TNAStars.com. I’m a wrestling fan and have been since I was a little kid watching Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior go at it at WrestleMania VI. However, in recent years I’ve really come to dislike the product that World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) puts out there. In my view, no matter what happens and no matter what year it is, there are certain people who will always either be the champion of the organization or at least on the top of the card.

Because I was disenfranchised by WWE, I began watching Total Nonstop Action (TNA) which is based out of Orlando and Nashville. It’s pretty entertaining, though the writing seems to be questionable at times. This is the same TNA that Hulk Hogan recently announced he would be working for as a management consultant (in fact, he makes his debut tonight).

Anyway, I began watching TNA a few years ago and at some point during the summer of 2008 I began working on a TNA-only wrestling website. Many of you know that I began my foray into the wrestling website world with a personal website called The Balrog’s Lair, which eventually morphed into TBLWrestling.com. That website is more like a wrestling supersite with information dating back over a decade. I intended for TNAStars.com to be a different type of site – one that has news, rumors, results, and opinions, but also one that has profiles of wrestlers from the promotion. I didn’t quite accomplish my goal to have a bunch of profiles of the wrestlers on TNAStars.com, but I did manage to put together what I think is a pretty bad ass design for a small wrestling website.

Anyway, this pet project of mine is now live so if you have any interest in learning some more about TNA Wrestling, then head over to TNAStars.com and enjoy!

Random Thoughts for a Monday

Monday, August 17th, 2009

One of my buddies down in Nashville sent me an e-mail the other day that had “random thoughts” in it. I got a kick out of them, so I thought that I would share the e-mail with you folks. Enjoy!

Random Thoughts of the Day:

Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey – but I’d bet my ass everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time…

It really pisses me off when I want to read a story on CNN.com and the link takes me to a video instead of text.

I wonder if cops ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

When I meet a new girl, I’m terrified of mentioning something she hasn’t already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking.

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you’ve made up your mind that you just aren’t doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?

I would like to officially coin the phrase ‘catching the swine flu’ to be used as a way to make fun of a friend for hooking up with an overweight woman. Example: “Dave caught the swine flu last night.”

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.

A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.

How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you’re going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you’re crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

By the way – if anyone really DOES know how to fold a fitted sheet, please let me know!

Summer Is Flying By Really Fast This Year

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Believe it or not, we’re in August already. I don’t know about the rest of you out there, but I think summer is flying by pretty fast this year. It seems like only yesterday that it was the beginning of June and everyone was wondering when it was going to get hot outside.

I think that’s part of it, though. Since the weather has been a little bit wacky and there really haven’t been that many prolonged stretches of “summer weather” in New Jersey, it does make the time fly by a little bit faster. Of course that’s just my reaction to the weather – some people may have viewed the cool temperatures as making it feel like summer was slowly rolling past.

Personally, I’m glad that summer is flying by this year. The two big events I had to look forward to this summer are both over (my buddy’s wedding and my trip to Nashville). Plus, the closer we get to September, the closer I get to teaching over at the local college again! Being the huge nerd that I am, I also view August as preparation month for my course. In the next few days and weeks I’ll start reviewing all of the materials that I use for my class and bring them up to date for the coming semester.

Also, I’m planning on going back to school for a class this semester, but more on that in tomorrow’s entry!

Review of My Trip to Nashville – 2009

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Alright, so everyone knows that I spent the last weekend in Nashville. I figured I would take a little bit of space to talk about what I was doing down there and how the entire trip went.

My purpose for going to Nashville was to attend the Board meeting of the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation. As I reported on this blog last year, I was elected to the Board of Trustees of my fraternity’s foundation; I’m also the Chairman of our Alumni Communications Committee. Since then I’ve attended a few different meetings and they’ve each been rewarding both personally and fraternally. Plus, we have a bunch of really great (and incredibly smart) guys on our Board of Trustees and hanging out with them is a lot of fun.

For lodging, I spent Wednesday through Saturday nights in the freshmen dorms at Vanderbilt University. I should note – while the Foundation has its Board meetings, the Fraternity itself holds its biennial leadership school on Vanderbilt’s campus. It’s one of the “features” of the leadership school that you live on the campus of the university for the weekend. And I’m all for the whole fraternizing with the different generations of the fraternity thing, but my back and body disagrees. In other words, if I have to go down there again I’m going to have to stay in a hotel!

Before I go on, I should also state that the campus is beautiful. The folks who manage Vanderbilt University have done a wonderful job in making that campus appear in tip-top shape at all times. Definitely a job well done.

Tracy Lawrence – a member of our fraternity – was in attendance at the leadership school. He gave a great speech on overcoming adversity. The undergraduates had some questions for him and I thought that his entire presentation was very well done. For a huge country music star, he’s a down to earth kind of guy.

I’ve been down to Nashville twice before and the downtown scene is always great. It was no different this time. Of course, we generally wound up at Lonnie’s Karaoke Bar in Printer’s Alley, but that’s because we’re a bunch of northerners who are fascinated by that whole scene. On Thursday night I may have had a few drinks which led me to get on the stage and sing Don McLean’s American Pie…but that’s another story.

I enjoy going down to Nashville. I can get a bit hot down there, but the people are really nice and the scene is wonderful. It’s definitely a place I would consider living outside of New Jersey. Anyway, I’m back now!

No Time For An Update Today

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Sorry folks. I didn’t have time for an update today since I was busy doing wrap-up stuff from my weekend in Nashville. The trip was awesome and I’ll have a great little post on it by tomorrow (I hope). Overall, I’m pretty exhausted and worn out. Isn’t weird how going on vacation isn’t really a relaxing event? Generally, it’s the exact opposite!

Aside from battling some annoying heartburn over the weekend (and for the last two weeks) and being very busy with websites and Foundation work, I’ve been doing great. More to come tomorrow…

In the mean time, check out New Jersey Carpet Cleaning for the best carpet cleaning in the Garden State!

Heading Down to Nashville

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

At some point this afternoon I’ll be getting on a plane and heading south to beautiful Nashville, Tennessee. This is the trip I take every other year to Sigma Pi Fraternity, International’s Sigma Pi University event. Of course this year I’ll be attending for the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation as a Trustee.

In any event, this will be the third time that I’ve gone down to Nashville and I really like it down there. It’s a great city with a wonderful night life and the people are all really nice and laid back down there (which is a dramatic change from the northern part of the East Coast).

I’ll be back Sunday afternoon, but don’t worry – I have entries ready to be auto-uploaded to the blog for every day that I won’t be around. So you can get your fix of Joe’s Journal on JerseySmarts.com every day!
