WTF??? Turn on the Damn Power Already!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

This entry is powered by my BlackBerry Tour 9630… Because there’s no electricity in my place and this is bullshit!

Okay, everyone knows that all of a sudden we went from a deep, frozen winter season to a sloppy, gross wet season, but come on! How is there a damn monsoon hitting Tinton Falls two weeks after a massive blizzard?! What is going on?!

And I’m sorry, but in 2010 there is no excuse for power outages in high tech areas like the northeast United States. Put the friggin’ power lines underground already and get on with it!

So that’s what I’m doing today. On a day when I have way too much shit to do to be sitting around in the dark, I’m sitting around in the dark. This is crap. Someone put the damn lights on already!

What the Snow Looks Like in Tinton Falls… So Far…

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Today, the Monmouth University Hawks will host the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights at the MAC Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey. I won’t be able to attend the game because I’m essentially snowed in (see pictures below)!

A few comments. First, I hate when there is a home game for Monmouth that I can’t attend. I really enjoy going to the games, hanging out in The Varsity Club before and after the game, and watching the Hawks compete against their competition. It’s a really good time (or at least I think so). Second, it’s amazing that the game wasn’t canceled (at least it hasn’t been canceled as of 10:00am today). And third – what’s the deal with all of the snow?! I heard from some of my friends in North Jersey that there are spots where the snow isn’t that bad at all. Meanwhile, down here in Tinton Falls we’ve got a foot and more to come!

My cousin was actually going to come down for the game today so he and I could celebrate our respective birthdays (he turned 29 yesterday – Happy Birthday, cousin!). Unfortunately, though, the pending snow storm canceled those plans for us. For those of you looking for some coverage of the basketball game today, you can check out the official online home of the Hawks by clicking here or check out Tony Graham at The Hawks Nest.

Anyway, since my plan for the blog today was to add a bunch of pictures from the Monmouth game that I won’t be able to attend now, enjoy some pictures from outside of my townhouse. The green arrow in one of the pictures is pointing to my car.

Hey Everyone – Merry Christmas 2009!

Friday, December 25th, 2009

From all of us at JerseySmarts.com (me) to all of this site’s readers and passersby, we (I) hope you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy today with your friends, family, and loved ones.

Merry Christmas!

I’ll be spending the day with my family up at my Mom’s house, but I’ll be back in Tinton Falls by tonight. Remember to check back at JerseySmarts.com throughout the coming week as I have a great deal of content that will be uploaded between now and New Year’s Day.

Until then, though, enjoy the rest of the day and have a very Merry Christmas! And in case you didn’t get a chance to read them, be sure to check out some of the poems posted at JerseySmarts.com over the last few weeks: Here Comes Santa on Christmas Eve | It’s Christmas Time in New Jersey | The Real Meaning of Christmas

It’s a Snow Day in Tinton Falls

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Last night’s blizzard dropped a ton of snow in Tinton Falls as well as the rest of the northern Jersey Shore in Monmouth County. Here are some pictures from the last few hours of my roommates and I (and the rest of the neighbors) digging out of our development in Fox Chase. It wasn’t fun – especially since my roommates and I only had a beat-up kitchen broom and ice scrapers to get ourselves out!

Pictures from Last Night’s Snow

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

If you live on the northern Jersey Shore, then you know that last night a gigantic storm dumped a butt load of snow all over the place! Take a look at the pictures below to see what the accumulations looked like around 10:00pm in the Fox Chase development in Tinton Falls. It’s about time we got some snow!

I Absolutely Hate My Daily Commute

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Each day I drive an hour to Trenton and then an hour (or sometimes longer) back home to Tinton Falls. Once a week, I go from Trenton right to West Long Branch for the class that I take in communication. Some people who make a similar commute may suggest that it really isn’t an hour from Tinton Falls to Trenton and back, but rather that it’s more like 45 minutes – which is true, assuming that there is no traffic and you’re going 75mph the entire time. However, like all morning and rush hour commutes, it is rare that you don’t hit traffic on the road.

In particular, there are three things that I hate about my commute. First, I hate the length of time that I’m in the car because it really is wasted time. Second, I hate the additional expenses in fuel and maintenance costs for traveling so much. And third, I hate the fact that the commute completely exhausts me every morning and every afternoon.

It would be great if I could find a job that was similar to the one that I have now, but located in Monmouth County. However, that’s very unlikely to happen any time soon so I’m out of luck. I’ve always been taught that you typically change careers several times in your adult life and there is a possibility that I could be ready to change careers. Yet, I’m making okay money where I’m at and doing a job that I somewhat enjoy, so I don’t see the need to switch careers at this point. Plus, the only other occupation that I’d rather have right now is to be a college professor. In order to do that, though, I’d need to go back to school and get a doctorate degree and I’m not overly interested in going through that at this point in my life.

My job is somewhat flexible in terms of the commute in that they let me work from home each Friday. This is a great feature because I can run errands in the morning and do tasks in my home in the afternoon, but it still means that I’m wasting more than 8 hours each week by sitting in a car. And it’s not like I can even be productive during those 8 hours because the cell phone that I currently have has a broken 3.5mm ear jack port. Sure, I could use a Bluetooth connection, but it seems to me that no one can ever hear you clearly on the other end of those things.

So, if you have any tips on how to hate my commute less, I’m all ears…
