Those of you out there on the internet who have a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) already know the many benefits that this little device brings to its owner. The ability to record movies and televisions shows when you are not going to be home is amazing and really helps to keep viewers up to date on their favorite little pieces of pop culture. For example, I remember using the DVR to record Smallville while I was teaching last fall (and I expect to do it again this fall).

However, this entry is about another, older show than Smallville. In fact, it’s about one of the best shows in television history – Cheers! I’ve been using the DVR to record episodes of Cheers on the Hallmark Channel which air at 2:00am. Lord knows why Hallmark is airing episodes of this show at such an unGodly hour, but with a little bit of an assist from my DVR, I’ve been able to record and watch a whole bunch of episodes starting at some point in season two through the beginning of season six – which is where Hallmark is in the progression of the show.

Watching the show, though, there is a clear difference between the Shelley Long years and the Kirstie Alley years. First of all, I should note that I am currently watching a portion of the show that was taped during a time when Kirstie Alley wasn’t a maniac. In fact, she still had some of her looks back in the day so she’s not so bad on the eyes. Still, though, it’s like watching an entirely new show now that Long is gone. The storyline takes a dramatic change and it’s like the end of season five is completely forgotten. It’s a bit weird.

Now it turns out that this WGN America station began airing episodes of Cheers last night starting with the first two episodes. My DVR tells me that they’re going to air two episodes each Sunday night in the order that they were originally aired. Between WGN America and the Hallmark Channel I’ll be able to watch the entire series – for free – which is great!

Another benefit of utilizing the DVR…

Is the world ready for a Cheney campaign for the Presidency in 2012? Immediately, the left wing extremists out there cry out, “No! No! Cheney is evil and will destroy America! Cheney is a war crimes criminal and should be arrested! Oh, the horror! The despair! NO!!!” If I may respond…shut up. Besides, I’m not talking about Vice President Dick Cheney, no. Instead, I’m talking about his daughter Elizabeth Cheney. Why Elizabeth and not her father? Read about it after the jump.

Elizabeth Cheney was featured on MSNBC last week speaking with the type of strong conviction that has been missing from the previous administration’s defense of their policies. If you have the time, the video clip below is an excellent representation of two things. First, how clearly Ms. Cheney presents her position and the position of the previous administration. Second, if you listen to the exchanges between the host and Ms. Cheney, it becomes very clear how the host is trying to lead Ms. Cheney down a certain road of intended “guilt” for the previous administration’s assumed law-breaking.

It is a great credit to Ms. Cheney that she is able to both defend the previous administration AND fend off the inherent far-left bias in the host’s questions. Take a listen and see what you think.

The other day I was out making a bunch of visits to collect payments and get updates for my website company. While I was out there I was talking to one of my clients about their website and the different options that they had for hosting, bandwidth, photos, etc. You know – basic web client/web developer stuff.

Anyway, as I was talking to one of my clients, we had a discussion about the costs of putting more content on one page and ways that they might be able to do this without incurring additional expenses. A few times I reported that free websites like YouTube and Hulu are a great way to get certain types of video content on a website without using any of your own bandwidth. I repeat – a few times I reported this during our conversation (I had also e-mailed this information to this client on a few different occasions). One of the clients in the room then said to their partner (like I wasn’t in the room), “He’s supposed to tell us this stuff. How are we supposed to make decisions if he doesn’t tell us this stuff?”

Excuse me?

Some of my website clients don’t realize that I’m not a mind reader and that if they don’t ask me a specific question, then I can’t offer a specific answer. Sure, I can give you a general overview on certain aspects of web design if we’re talking about that topic, but I can’t read your mind and predict what your questions will be! Further, how dare someone reference me and my communication skills (which, trust me, are far and above this client’s skills) like I’m not in the room while I’m sitting right there?! This type of arrogance generally makes vendors walk away while telling the clients, “This isn’t going to work for us. Good luck with your business!” All the while knowing that with an attitude like that, they can’t be too successful.

And so we have another in a long line of annoying occurrences that I’ve experienced with my clients in this website company endeavor. Yippee.

Have you heard? Living Legend and resident NFL crybaby Brett Favre has moved from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. There’s not too much commentary that I can offer on this trade in this forum, but I would be happy to offer a comment or two on how this story was reported.

In short, the video clips and video packages were great! The commentary over the packages and the anchors (on ESPN, at least) were abysmal! Stuart Scott may have the least acumen for dramatic effect out of anyone that I’ve ever had the displeasure of listening to on the television. Bro, here’s a tip – not every fucking word has to be dramatic. And stop trying to use big words because you don’t use them the right way and it sounds stupid. At one point last night Scott tried to wedge the word “pantheon” into a sentence and it was so horribly chopped up that the sentence does not bear repeating here.

But none of that matters. Favre is in New York and I wonder if there are any real winners here. The Jets get a future Hall of Famer…but you can’t build a young team around Favre. And remember, the Jets lose a future draft pick and salary money. And then there is Rodgers out in Green Bay. The first time that kid makes a mistake he’s going to be destroyed by the media. Same goes for Favre in the New York media. And of course there is the fact that Favre is a future Hall of Famer who wanted to finish his career in Green Bay (which he ruined on his own accord).

Anyway, what a mess. Go Giants!

My unhappy history with Verizon Wireless has been detailed in depth on this blog. I’m no big fan of them and they’ve found new ways to tell me no (bear in mind that I am a customer who has paid his bill EARLY each month for the last 5 years). The unfortunate truth is that in New Jersey, and the Northeast in general, Verizon Wireless is really the only choice if you want uninterrupted, clear cell phone coverage.

Earlier this week I received an e-mail from Verizon telling me that my “new every two” has kicked in. For the non-Verizon readers out there, this is a plan that the company has where after two years the customer has the option to get a $50 – $100 discount on a new phone. Now I have a decision to make – which new phone should I get? There’s no chance in hell that I’ll get one of those crappy smartphone/PDAs that caused me so much trouble. Let me state emphatically once again that the Palm Treo 700p is a complete disaster of a phone! Stay away from it!

Right now I use my 4+ year old LG VX8000 phone, which I really like. The camera phone is only 1.3 megapixels but it takes great pictures whenever I use it and the call quality is crystal clear. The speakerphone works perfectly as does the video recorder and voice recorder. In it’s old age (4+ years is more than a life time for cell phones these days) it has become a little stodgy and unresponsive at points, but it’s still better than that overpriced piece of crap Treo 700p.

Anyway, what I’ve learned is that I like the LG brand of phones and that I’d prefer to stick to their brand. The problem is that looking on Verizon’s website, I don’t really care for the LG phones which are being offered. There is one phone that is only a slight upgrade from the one that I currently use (I think it’s the VX8350 or something like that). I figured that if I get that phone, I can still keep my current phone on standby just in case the new one sucks. Plus, with the “New Every Two” discount, the new phone would be free. Can’t really say no to that deal, can you?

At some point this weekend I’m going to go for the new phone. I just hope that everything works out better than when I got the disaster Treo 700p “smartphone” two years ago. Of course, after the debacle that was the Treo 700p, I don’t think anything could be worse!

Anyway, check out Jersey City Locksmith for the best locksmith service in the Garden State!

My alma mater had a really gross incident occur yesterday. In case you haven’t heard, a creepy old goof ball was arrested at Monmouth University yesterday for planting a video camera in the men’s locker room. What a filthy, disgusting scumbag this jerkoff was, huh?

There are so many issues here that it’s not even easy to discuss all of them in one sitting. Why was this creepy old bastard allowed to join the gym at Monmouth University if he wasn’t an alumnus and wasn’t local to the university? For those of you that don’t know, he wasn’t from the local area.

Further, why was he allowed on campus in the first place if he had an old access card? If the guy’s sole purpose is to go to the gym because he’s a “member” and his card indicating that membership is expired…then shouldn’t he NOT be on campus?!

And what really pisses me off is the reaction that one of the students had to the entire thing:

“Doesn’t bother me,” he said. “I really don’t care.”

That pretty much sums up 99% of the students that I’ve ever met while at Monmouth University or that I’ve met since I’ve become an alumni advisor to my fraternity at Monmouth University. I deal with kids who go to school all over this state and virtually none of them would have had that completely uncaring reaction. And good Lord, if I had my way I’d take this pervert and give him a few minutes with some of those guys that he so desperately wanted to see naked.

I have no problem with the fact that this weirdo likes dudes, but I have a HUGE problem with him invading the privacy of these unsuspecting students to get off. That’s just disgusting and I hope he get what he deserves.
