For some reason, this entry has been left lagging in the “Drafts” folder of the blog for several months now. I’m not sure why I didn’t post this earlier considering that the season ended back in the winter, but the pictures are here for you viewing pleasure anyway. I must have intended to add some captions to these pictures so you knew what it was that you were looking at, but I guess I didn’t get around to it.

I hope that you enjoy flipping through some of these pictures – I know that I enjoyed attending the Hawks’ games last season and I’m hoping for a better season next year. It’s a shame that a talented guy like Austin Tillotson decided to leave the team and the university, but if the kid didn’t feel comfortable in the program and wanted to go to a good academic school, then he has to make the right decision for him. And for Tillotson, that decision was to go to Colgate. If those are his reasons for leaving, I don’t think you can really blame him for making the move. Colgate is a nationally-ranked academic school while Monmouth has a modest ranking at a regional level. Colgate has about half of the enrollment that Monmouth has, so it seems to fit what the kid was looking for in his college experience.

Good for him – I wish him luck. And now, enjoy the pictures!

Last night’s Monmouth University home game against St. Francis College (NY) was extra entertaining for a few reasons. Not only did the Monmouth Hawks win, but at one point, the net on the basketball hoop must have broken or snapped. How did the staff at The MAC fix this situation? That’s right – athletic tape!

When in doubt, tape it out!

For some reason, I found that very entertaining! Anyway, the more important story is that the Monmouth Hawks won their third game in a row and now are faced with a situation where they need to win two of their remaining three games in order to qualify for the NEC tournament. A few weeks ago I’d say that I’m not sure if the team would be able to make it happen. However, with three wins a row the Hawks might actually be building a slight bit of momentum going into tomorrow’s final home game of the season against Robert Morris University. If you’re in the area, make sure you head over to The MAC to support the Hawks!

No pictures (not many folks look at them anyway so I’m probably just wasting time – especially when Monmouth keeps losing) and no major comments about last night’s game. Monmouth lost another one at home – this time to St. Francis (New York) who happens to be another Northeast Conference competitor. This drops the Monmouth Hawks down to 6 wins and 15 losses for the season. It’s getting pretty bad in West Long Branch… pretty bad indeed.

Once again, there was something missing in the air at the MAC tonight. It was a relatively close game, but from this fan’s perspective there’s something about watching Monmouth closely compete against teams that they should be dominating that is just upsetting. I can’t really point to a single player’s out of this world performance for Monmouth or St. Francis for that matter. Here are some post-game quotes courtesy of the Monmouth University athletics website:

“The game was at a good pace for us,” commented head coach Dave Calloway. “We settled down defensively in the second half.”

Head coach Calloway went on to say this about his team’s management of the basketball and sinking some more foul shots:

“If we had taken care of the ball, made some more foul shots and layups, we would have been in a great position to win tonight,” added Calloway.

I guess that’s all there is to say, huh? Making more points = not losing the game in the last second of play.

I’ll be going to this Saturday’s 2:00pm game against Long Island University. The game is going to be broadcast on MSG so I’ll be DVR’ing the game just in case there are any good action shots to post on the blog. We’ll see you back here this weekend. Until then, enjoy.
