Somebody saaaaave meeee… I’m pretty sure that Remy Zero never would have imagined that their pop hit “Save Me” would wind up being so intrinsically tied to one of the top shows in recent television history. Yet, for ten years fans listened to that cry for help as each new episode of Smallville showed us a little bit more of Kal-El’s journey from a young Clark Kent to Superman.

Smallville: A great show with one of the most powerful series finales in recent television history

That journey ended earlier tonight on The CW in one of the most powerful series finales that I’ve seen in recent television history. In fact, I absolutely did not want to write a recap blog post talking about my thoughts on the Smallville season finale. However, the final episode of this show – and really the final half an hour or so – was so powerful that I felt compelled to jump on the blog and at least give a few brief kudos to the entire team at Warner Brothers as well as the team at The CW for producing such a masterpiece.

But, of course, you can’t put together a television masterpiece without the right cast and Smallville has always had the right cast for this show. For my money, Tom Welling has got to be the best Superman in the character’s television history. No offense to Dean Cain, George Reeves, or even the movie-Superman actors (Brandon Routh and Christopher Reeve), but Welling recreated and gave definition to the psychological base that Superman operates from as a superhero. Welling’s performance over the last ten years was absolutely amazing; though I guess if you have ten years to perfect a role, you’re probably going to get it right!

But Welling was only the leader of an ensemble cast that came together tonight to highlight the entire ten year history of the show. From the persistent presence of both Annette O’Toole and John Schneider throughout the final episode as they reprised their roles as Martha and Jonathan Kent to Cassidy Freeman‘s demise as the ill-fated Tess Mercer to the return of Superman’s greatest enemy – Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor – tonight’s cast gave excellent performances.

And there are still so many more players in the game that made tonight’s final episode great. The freeing of Justin Hartley‘s Green Arrow from the grip of Darkseid, the emotional struggle of Erica Durance‘s Lois Lane, the quiet knowledge and knowing look of Allison Mack‘s Chloe Sullivan, the innately evil portrayal of Lionel Luthor by John Glover – it was all done to perfection. Even the scene where Clark Kent realizes that he has powers beyond his knowledge while watching a flashback of the show’s history was well done. On the topic of artfully performed flashbacks, I also liked the very well done scene where a dying Tess Mercer condemned her brother, Lex Luthor, to a future with no knowledge of his horribly troubled past. So much “happened” in the story of Superman during those two scenes and I think that the folks behind Smallville chose the right paths to bring those critical changes in each character’s history to the television audience.

I haven’t heard about or read any reports of a Smallville movie and, frankly, I can’t imagine that this absolutely brilliant series finale left room for a Smallville movie, per se. Sure, there is a seven year gap presented to the audience at the end of the show, but those seven years aren’t really focused on the story of Smallville. Instead, those are the seven years between the end of Clark Kent’s ascent to truly becoming Superman and his marriage to Lois Lane as well as Lex Luthor’s presidential victory. Is there a story to tell in that seven year period? Of course! Would Smallville fans eat up that movie? Yeah! But to revisit any portion of the Smallville universe (i.e. to go back and add additional information to any of the existing series canon) would do a disservice to the power in tonight’s finale.

Anyway, those are my quick thoughts. And a quick final thought on the Smallville series finale for my fellow long-time fans: how absolutely amazing was it to watch Tom Welling‘s Superman run in slow motion on the roof of The Daily Planet as he tore his Clark Kent outfit off and revealed the Superman suit… with the classic Superman theme playing?! It was awesome! That was an absolutely phenomenal payoff for this Smallville fan!

Well done, Smallville!

While I was fast forwarding through the commercials as I cleaned out my DVR the other day, I remembered that it had been quite some time since I wrote an entry on the blog with some of my random thoughts on television shows. So, without further adieu (since I know you’re all waiting to read my opinions), here are my thoughts on the winter/spring 2010 television season… thus far!

Smallville
I’m a big Smallville fan, but I’m not a fan of how they break up the seasons each year. This year they went from January to the end of February, took off for March, and then started up again in April. What’s the point in doing that? It doesn’t make any sense? Anyway, I like the way that Smallville is trying to focus more on the actual comic book relationship to the series and less on the stupid, cheesy storylines. The more that they move in that direction, then the better and brighter this show’s ratings future becomes. Speaking of ratings, Smallville is one of those shows that gets a big bump each week thanks to people who DVR the show and watch within 7 days of the recording. Just goes to show you how new technology helps to keep good shows on the air!

Lost
I was talking to my Mom the other day and I said that the first season of Lost will probably go down as the best single season of a show in the history of television. That show had people riveted to its every move and plot twist – watching the show was actually fun! These days, though, while I like that we’re only a few episodes away from the grand finale, I’m annoyed that there is no possible way for the writers to address every single storyline and loose end before the show goes off the air.

So, while the first season of this show will probably go down in history as the best season of television ever, the last few seasons have to go down in history as a major disappointment. And how do you kill off Sun, Jin, and Sayeed? Good grief…

Fringe
I love it. This show is amazing. The idea that there is another universe that parallels our own should be enough to make any science fiction nerd happy. But showing that alternate universe and the relationship that it has with our own is what Fringe does best. Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, and John Noble are out of this world (pardon the pun) in terms of their performances. A better cast couldn’t have been assembled for this show. My only concern about the future of this show is that it was created by and is currently executive produced by J.J. Abrams. Why might this be a problem? Well, Abrams created Lost and, well, see my review above…

24
On the one hand, it’s sad to see Jack Bauer and Chloe Sullivan canceled after this season, but on the other hand I think that this is the best thing for the show. In reality, there is only so much that you can do in terms of terror plots that have to cover 24 separate episodes. If I’m not mistaken it has already been confirmed that there is a 24 movie in the works, so that’s good news.

This season, I was shocked that they showed the aftermath of the assassination of Omar Hassan (played by the guy who was the game show host in Slumdog Millionaire). That made for some shocking entertainment television. I was also surprised that they killed off Renee Walker right after she and Bauer began a romantic relationship – I didn’t see that coming. However, I was glad to see good old Kara Thrace (the character’s name in Battlestar Galactica) a.k.a. Dana Walsh (real name Katee Sackhoff) added as a member of the cast. Okay, sure, she winds up being a bad guy and a mole for the Russians, but she’s one hell of an actress.

TNA iMPACT!
Well, if you know me then you know that I’m a wrestling fan. Sure, I’m not as big of a fan as I used to be and I don’t regularly watch the shows (thank God for DVRs), but I still get some enjoyment out of the “male soap operas” that are professional wrestling shows. For a variety of reasons, I’m not really interested in watching WWE any more. Not only has the show fallen to a PG rating (and thus puts out a product a bit below my age group), but I’m sick and tired of seeing some of the same people over and over again (Triple H comes to mind).

TNA, on the other hand, is showcasing some pretty great talent in Abyss and A.J. Styles. They’re also bringing us Desmond Wolfe, D’Angelo Dinero, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Hardy, and any other number of great performers that are getting to rub elbows with wrestling legends Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair in on-camera appearances. For that reason alone I enjoy watching TNA’s flagship show iMPACT! However, if you actually sit down and watch the show for what it is – as a fan of sports entertainment – you really see how entertaining the overall product can be. TNA recently decided to retreat to Thursday nights after trying to take on WWE’s Monday Night RAW head-to-head. TNA is really still pretty young and the move to Monday nights was pretty ill-conceived, but I’m glad that they listened to their fans and moved the show back where they wanted it – on Thursday nights on Spike TV!

V
I like this show. In fact, sitting through Lost is made more palatable because I know that after the show is over I get to see the actress who played Juliet as one of the main characters on V. The concept behind this show is interesting – aliens that look and talk like humans have come to earth in these spaceships and they are offering all of these great technological advances in the name of peace. Sounds great, right? Meanwhile, the aliens are really these reptile creatures that have the sole intent of invading the earth and destroy its people. In fact, a fleet of enemy ships are on their way to earth and no one knows about it!

There is a certain overall feeling of hopelessness with sporadic glimmers of hope throughout this show that reminds me a lot of the Battlestar Galactica series. All of the actors on this show put out great performances and it really is a good show to watch if you’re into the science fiction stuff.

Caprica
This is another show that was stopped mid-season by the SyFy Channel for a break. Why do these channels do this to upstart shows? What’s the purpose? Caprica aired its mid-season finale on March 23rd and the word going around is that there won’t be any more new episodes until the fall. The fall?! Really? What’s the point in that?!

Other than the dumb break in the season, this show is actually pretty good. I think that it needed some time to find itself after the first few episodes and it did. The only carryover character (not counting the Cylons) from the Battlestar Galactica series is Admiral William Adama, though Adama is a young boy in Caprica. At one point, Battlestar Galactica was the best show on television, bar none. I think that if Caprica is given the right room to grow into itself, it can easily become one of the top shows on cable television and probably compete with the network stations for audience.

The story thus far is pretty compelling. A genius scientist and a rugged attorney each lose their daughters in a train explosion set off by a religious separatist group claiming that there is only one God and not many Gods as most people believe. As the first half of the season progresses, we find out that not only are one of the daughters actually involved in the separatist group, but that she (being a genius herself) created an avatar of herself and has it stored in an online world that her father created for entertainment purposes. In fact, once her father finds this out he is able to create an avatar of the other girl that died in the bombing and he shares that avatar with her father – the lawyer – who then becomes obsessed with finding his daughter in this online world.

That’s a trivial explanation of what’s going on and I’m obviously leaving out major plot points, but this is a good show and I hope SyFy gives it a chance.

The Biggest Loser
This is one of the best reality shows on television, if not the best reality show, period. What makes this show so great is that not only do you learn the back stories of each of the contestants, but you actually get to watch them transform themselves into a new person. Anyone who is watching this season has to be impressed with Sam and Koli’s transformations. The same for Michael.

Actually, Michael is an interesting case. He’s the biggest contestant in Biggest Loser history starting the show weighing in at 526 pounds. And here he is a full 16 weeks into the show and he’s lost 192 pounds and is weighing in at 334 pounds. Yet, that’s the weight that most people start at on the show! Quite frankly, Michael can still lose another 130 – 150 pounds before his weight loss journey is over. Imagine that for a moment. Here’s this guy on this weight loss show and he’s lost nearly 200 pounds and yet he’s only a little past the halfway point in his transformation.

Amazing.

For this reason alone, Michael is my pick to win the whole thing this season, although I think his stiffest competition may come from Ashley.

House
You want to talk about great shows? House is the best medical drama on television. Hugh Laurie plays the best crazy doctor that anyone could ask for and he really makes the show complete. Whenever I flip over to my DVR and see what I have stored up to watch, I’m always glad when there is an episode or two of House waiting for me. This is one of those shows that you can watch one time and wind up getting hooked. In fact, I even began watching some of the first season episodes online so I can catch up with all of the storylines.

This season has been good and I think I find myself enjoying the individual episodes and the individual patient storylines more than the overarching stories behind all of the main characters. Maybe I like medical dramas, I guess.

Anyway, there’s my report on what I think of this season’s television shows and how they’re progressing. What do you think about these shows?

Wow. What a great made-for-television movie this was, huh? If you haven’t seen the recent two hour special episode of Smallville on The CW entitled, “Absolute Justice,” then you really missed a great show. Before I talk about the show, though, I should tell you that this is one of those nerdy, comic bookish type of entries so if you’re not interested, then maybe you want to come back tomorrow!

I’ve been a fan of Smallville on The CW (formerly The WB Network) for a long time. It’s a fun show that gives the whole superhero genre some credibility, if you ask me (much like the Spider-Man and X-Men movies). This episode was a two hour made-for-television movie that focused on the original Justice Society of America’s (JSA) interaction with a young Superman, The Green Arrow, The Martian Manhunter, and the Watchtower (operated by Chloe Sullivan). The members of the original JSA that were in this episode included The Star-Spangled Kid, Hawkman, Stargirl, and Dr. Fate.

Anyway, the episode starts with Chloe being confronted by The Star-Spangled Kid before he’s killed by Icicle. Chloe, The Green Arrow, and Clark Kent then do some research and find out that The Star-Spangled Kid was one of the members of an old group of Superheroes called the Justice Society of America. This group was led by Hawkman, who gave up on leading the group years ago and appears to take pleasure in criticizing the younger generation of Superheroes (Clark and his buddies).

Hawkman alludes to the DC Comic book universe in the episode by referring to himself and his team as the Golden Age of Superheroes. He then talks about Clark and his team being the Silver Age of Superheroes. If I remember correctly (and I don’t really remember at all), that is the chronology that DC Comics uses in its comic books, too.

What makes the episode interesting is that it lays the groundwork for a lot of future possibilities. For example, the JSA seems to have all of the information on Kent, the Arrow, Sullivan, Aquaman, and a bunch of the younger generation of Superheroes. The writers could spend full seasons detailing the history of the old JSA as well as showing how the remaining members mentor the new generation. Plus, there’s that museum with all of the old Superheroes’ stuff in it – definitely a lot to talk about in that place. I was also intrigued at Tess Mercer’s involvement in this Checkmate group of villains that zeroed in on attacking the JSA as well as the information that Lex Luthor is still alive. There’s a lot of potential here and I hope that the folks at The CW realize that and urge the Smallville writers to explore the background of the JSA in future episodes.

The point of this entry was just to say that for a show in its ninth season, I think that Smallville still has “it” and I hope The CW supports the show and its writers. And if you can get your hands on the Absolute Justice episode, I would suggest giving it a try!

Those of you out there on the internet who have a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) already know the many benefits that this little device brings to its owner. The ability to record movies and televisions shows when you are not going to be home is amazing and really helps to keep viewers up to date on their favorite little pieces of pop culture. For example, I remember using the DVR to record Smallville while I was teaching last fall (and I expect to do it again this fall).

However, this entry is about another, older show than Smallville. In fact, it’s about one of the best shows in television history – Cheers! I’ve been using the DVR to record episodes of Cheers on the Hallmark Channel which air at 2:00am. Lord knows why Hallmark is airing episodes of this show at such an unGodly hour, but with a little bit of an assist from my DVR, I’ve been able to record and watch a whole bunch of episodes starting at some point in season two through the beginning of season six – which is where Hallmark is in the progression of the show.

Watching the show, though, there is a clear difference between the Shelley Long years and the Kirstie Alley years. First of all, I should note that I am currently watching a portion of the show that was taped during a time when Kirstie Alley wasn’t a maniac. In fact, she still had some of her looks back in the day so she’s not so bad on the eyes. Still, though, it’s like watching an entirely new show now that Long is gone. The storyline takes a dramatic change and it’s like the end of season five is completely forgotten. It’s a bit weird.

Now it turns out that this WGN America station began airing episodes of Cheers last night starting with the first two episodes. My DVR tells me that they’re going to air two episodes each Sunday night in the order that they were originally aired. Between WGN America and the Hallmark Channel I’ll be able to watch the entire series – for free – which is great!

Another benefit of utilizing the DVR…

The New York Daily News ran a story earlier today that talked about all of the television shows that were canceled for the upcoming fall season. Reading through this list is absolutely hilarious for a bunch of reasons. For me, I like to laugh at the networks proving their stereotypes over and over again. I also like to look at the completely ridiculous shows that were cut and ask the obvious question: “Who approved this piece of garbage show in the first place?!?”

Some examples of the stereotypes…

FOX canceled Back to You – the news sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton. They put SO much promotional resources behind this show that you have to wonder if someone at FOX is finally going to get canned for wasting so much money. But this is FOX’s way – they start a show, give it two or three seasons (just enough time to build up a core fan base), and then dump the show. Idiots.

Then you have the brain trust at CBS who decided to cancel Jericho – again. If I’m not mistaken, CBS canceled Jericho last season and then was forced to bring the series back after tons of fan outrage. Hey, if that works, then I wonder why Arrested Development hasn’t been brought back by FOX yet!

Our friends at ABC canceled the Cavemen show. You know – the show based off of Geico’s advertising campaign. What a completely stupid…and I mean absolutely dumb…basis for a television show. ABC is only saved this time around because they are acquiring Scrubs from NBC. If you haven’t watched Scrubs, then you have to give it a shot. Lots of humor on that show.

The CW, which may have more problems that they’re not letting on about, gave up on WWE Smackdown! which will certainly go down as the dumbest move in this company’s short history. Why a dumb move? It’s the number one show on the network! I’m glad, though, that they’re bringing Smallville back for another season, but I’d like to see how they move that storyline along without Lex Luthor – especially in light of the large role he played in the season finale last night.

NBC is dropping 1 vs. 100, The Singing Bee, and My Dad is Better Than Your Dad. Good grief! Who gets fired for approving these shows in the first place – really? Alright, so 1 vs. 100 had some potential, but the game show scene is way over saturated right now.

Anyway, I guess there is still a chance that some of these shows will be brought back, but it’s doubtful.

By now it should be obvious that I’m a Smallville freak (not to be confused with a meteor freak). My story is simple: I bought Season 1 on DVD one day because it was selling for $20 and I had only ever heard good things about the show. I plowed through Season 1 in a few days and immediately ran out to get Season 2 (even though I was extremely sick and wasn’t moving out of bed at the time)! I managed to get through the first 4 seasons while Season 5 was still on the television. So I didn’t watch and waited for Season 5 to come out on DVD, watched it in 2 days, and then began watching Season 6 last September.

Of course, my schedule screwed me and I started missing shows so I stopped watching completely…which means that I had to wait an entire year for the f’ing DVDs to come out! I bought the DVDs earlier this week, watched them all, and still managed to miss the first episode of Season 7. Thank God I have DVR these days!

Season 6 was great. The show has grown-up so much over the last 5 years that it’s really become a great show with many adult themes. Sex, desire, marriage, lust – all of these play a major part in many of the episodes. This is the season that sees Lana Lang marry Lex Luthor and ultimately “explode” in the final episode. We follow Clark track escaped convicts from the Phantom Zone (which is where Zod exiled Clark at the end of Season 5). In fact, Season 6 ends with Clark fighting against the last – and strongest – escapee from the Phantom Zone.

One thing that really pissed me off about this season was the fact that Lana seemed to wind up in the hospital in the majority of the episodes. At one point, I think she was in there for a few episodes in a row! How long can you play out that storyline before it gets old? We get it, she’s physically weak, emotionally tempered, and sexually strong. We know! Move to the next friggin’ level of her character development!

The introduction of Jimmy Olsen was good for the show – or at least I think so. His interaction with Chloe really brings a different side of her character out for the fans to enjoy. It also clearly puts Clark in his own little world where he’s essentially alone. I mean even his Mother has Lionel Luther to lean on! Oh, and speaking of Annette O’Toole and John Glover, they (once again) steal the season with their acting. As do Chloe and Lois Lane (Erica Durance). Tom Welling is also great as Clark Kent as is Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor.

But honestly, at this point in the show’s history it is unnecessary to go over the excellence of the cast. They’re good – and if you don’t believe me then watch on Thursday nights at 8pm on The CW.

Season 6 was a great season and I’m looking forward to another excellent season!

Green Arrow Bandit, they call him.

Poor Oliver Queen – he’s just trying to be the “good guy” in a bad place – literally stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. That’s not quite what Lois Lane thinks, though. This episode began with more reasons to believe that Smallville has the best wardrobe department in the history of television! As the cast attends a Luther fundraiser for Metropolis, the Green Arrow manages to swoop in and steal a necklace that Lionel gave to Martha.

First point – if Jonathon was still around, he wouldn’t have any of that shit.

But, after we watch this episode, the Arrow lets us know that the items he is stealing (including the necklace from Martha’s neck) have all be stolen from other countries and their rare collections. I won’t spoil the episode in terms of how this revelation comes about, but the story is mildly well-written, so be sure to catch a replay if you can.

This episode impacted the larger story in that Lex and Lionel test Lana’s loyalty to the Luther clan (sounds like a bad tongue twister). In addition, the Green Arrow finds out about Clark’s super powers and Clark finds out that the Green Arrow is actually Oliver Queen. That part of the episode is worth watching again – if just to see the veiled references to the future Justice League of America that these two help found.

All in all, a good episode – not the best one, but much better than some of the ones that we’ve had to suffer through over the last few years!

Although Smallville started their sixth season a few weeks ago, I haven’t had a chance to comment on any of the shows on the blog yet. So whereas I was able to make comments on the first two Lost episodes, I’m just going to start the Smallville episode reviews/comments with the third episode from this season. Thankfully, I won’t get a chance to comment on the second episode, “Sneeze,” in which Clark realizes that he has super breath because he catches a cold. Ugh…

That being said, I really don’t have too much to comment on the third episode, Wither. The ending was great with Clark sitting alone in his barn while all of the other major characters are getting some. It was actually the best written scene in the entire episode, I think – Clark just bouncing that ball against the wall all by himself. Poor guy.

Oh wait, he’s Superman.

As for the rest of the episode, well it wasn’t too too bad. It wasn’t really great, but it wasn’t really bad. Something about a tree woman who plants seeds inside of men just strikes me as overly hokey. Then again, I watch a show about a twenty-something Clark Kent…

The relationship between Lex and Lana seems forced (to me) at this stage. It was interesting before when it was new and taboo, but it really does seem like it’s a bit much. Lex undressing Lana in front of a fireplace at his mansion? Eh – Lana naked does it for me, not the whole forced romantic BS that the writers threw in there.

On the other hand, I am a fan of the Green Arrow and his relationship with Lois. Though I’m having trouble rectifying how a twenty-something Lois Lane and a twenty-something Clark can have such bland feelings towards each other now and eventually wind up wanting to pump each other. And with Chloe’s relationship – she really ought to be getting it on with Clark and not this photographer guy from the first or second season.

I would give this episode a C – it was very average. The ending, though, gets a strong B.

It’s unbelievable that the last Smallville Review that I wrote was back in February. Seems like such a long time ago…

If I had to categorize Season 5, I would say that this was the “growing up” season of Smallville. One of the biggest complaints that I always hear about this show is that some of the show plots are high school-ish and juvenile. Well, I agree with that going back a few seasons – you can’t really deny it. However, Season 5 was really the season where the writers obviously had enough of being labeled a preteen show and wanted to prove that they could write stories at a more mature level.

So did they succeed?

Partly.

Sure the season was a lot more mature-minded, but I think that they forced themselves into growing up in areas where it wasn’t really necessary. The most obvious example was killing off Jonathon Kent. I don’t know if his contract was coming up and they needed him off the show or if something outside the “Smallville” world pulled him away, but his death was poorly written at best and leaves a gaping hole in the overall plot of the show.

Now, I’m not going to completely write off Daddy Kent’s death because the writers can prove that there is something bigger going on. They could continue to use him in the occasional episode and he can continue to be a positive influence in Clark’s life. However, if that doesn’t happen, then I see very little redeeming value in getting rid of Jonathon.

Almost as confusing was the beginning of the awkward relationship between Lana and Lex. And the way Season 5 ended left no clues about where any of that is going (which is a good thing). Actually, let me say that the final two episodes of Season 5 were fantastic. Oh, and good for the writers for not ending the season with a meteor shower or some other “bleh” scenario. The coming of Zod and the abolishment of Clark leave a nice opening for the first episode of Season 6…which started the other day and I missed!

As if you even were wondering…I highly suggest watching Smallville Season 5 and tuning in on Thursday nights to see Smallville on The CW.

It’s obvious that I’m a Smallville fan now – thanks to Peetah for turning me on to the series. Season 4 was probably the best of the lot as far as I’m concerned (so far).

The storyline about Lana’s connection to the witch who was burned at the stake and how that witch was sentenced to death by Jason’s ancestors – really interesting stuff! Also, the interplay of how each of the main characters wants the stones of power is very well written. I’m not sure how I feel about the episode where Lex is split in two and thus turns his father back into his old, nasty self, but we’ll see how that plays out in Season 5.

I’m a big fan of Erica Durance and her Lois Lane character. Not just because she’s banging, but she does a good job of being a nuisance to Clark. I’m also a big fan of that crazy girl who transports showing Chloe Clark’s secrets and the episode where Clark loses his memory and Chloe protects him from the outside world. Is it just me or is Chloe getting progressively hotter as the seasons go on? Good for her!

As the rest of the Smallville freaks will tell you, it’s cool that the Flash was introduced to the storyline – there really is endless potential especially since his powers are not a result of the meteor shower. And speaking of meteor showers – what a great final episode, huh? As I said in the Season 3 Review, the Smallville writers have a way of ending each season by blowing up enough of the storyline to start fresh, yet keep some of the more important characters and stories going. Another good job.

I’m not sure I really enjoyed the whole feeling of Clark as a football player. I mean he’s Superman for Christ’s sake – I don’t know if he needed to be a football hero in the story, even if it was only a short-lived fling. I will also say kudos to the writers for handling Christopher Reeve’s death in a classy fashion and for bringing in one of the only guest stars that could have taken his place – Margot Kidder. For those of you that don’t know, Margot played Lois Lane opposite Reeve in the Superman movies.

Though I will say that I don’t think she had a big enough role on the series and I really don’t like how her character was killed off and how her death was only mentioned as a passing note in the Lionel vs. Genevieve dialogue. Oh – how sweet is it that Jane Seymour was brought in to play Genevieve? She’s an excellent actress and she did a hell of a job playing a really tough role.

Anyone else think that the episode where Lana, Lois, and Chloe get possessed by the medieval witches was REALLY hot? Those three are ridiculously gorgeous.

This season also had some stupid high school-ish drama with the weirdo who tried to recreate Smallville High and turned everyone into mannequins. I thought the China episode was good and really showed how great the series can be when it pulls away from these stupid high school storylines. There was also the obligatory tragic death this season with Alicia being killed off, which I guess had to happen since the only way her role in the story could progress is by her becoming more involved with Clark (which is a big no-no with Lana and Lois around).

Season 4 was sweet, but my only problem now is that we’re 7 months away from when Season 5 comes out on DVD…so what the “f” am I supposed to do now?! I can’t start watching the series on TV – they’re already into like the 12th or 13th episode! Maybe I can find a place to buy the episodes from Season 5 online somewhere. Any advice that you folks have is greatly appreciated!
