One of the things that I truly enjoy in life is the taste of the Elk Candy Company’s marzipan. I don’t know about you all, but I’ll be getting myself some marzipan from the Elk Candy Company in the next few weeks. Not only does their marzipan make a great gift, but it’s the type of gift that you can treat yourself to and not really feel that guilty about it. I can’t wait!

For those of you that were wondering when the Elk Candy Company was going to begin producing their famous acorn-style pieces of marzipan, wait no more! I received an e-mail the other day that reported the following:

We can finally live up to our slogan “Fine Continental Chocolate and Marzipan”. By a lucky twist of fate we are able to start adding chocolate MUCH sooner than expected (maybe this is what they mean by holiday miracles?).

We’ve added marzipan acorns, marzipan dominoes and marzipan chocolate logs. Look for more to be added in the weeks ahead.

When I was a little kid and my family lived in Manhattan, every once in a while we would go to the Elk Candy Company on the Upper East Side (where we lived) to get the best marzipan on the planet. My Mom would take us there throughout the year and we’d get all different types of marzipan and Christmas goodies when the holidays came around. Later, when I was in college, I made a few visits to the candy store to pick up some marzipan gifts for my family.

Unfortunately, due to the financial downturn, the Elk Candy Company closed their doors a few years ago. The Elk Candy Company is Going Online!

Hey everyone – I have excellent, excellent news! One of Manhattan’s finest candy stores, which closed at some point last year, is now becoming an all-online business! The Elk Candy Company (one of the premiere makers of marzipan and other fine sweets) sent out the following e-mail a few days ago:

For those who haven’t seen our blog entry here is some good news. We are looking to open (online for now) in time for Thanksgiving. We’ll be preparing and gathering what we need over the summer.

It will be just Marzipan in the beginning and hopefully expanding the selection in early 2010 to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

My Mom used to take my older brother and I to this candy shop when we were little kids living in Manhattan. We’d get marzipan and she’d get chocolate covered marzipan (I think they were called acorns). Absolutely delicious – better than any other marzipan that you’ll find anywhere. This was also the place to get your Advent calendars.
