Jon Stewart is one of those guys that I really don’t “get” in terms of popularity. He seems to be appealing to my demographic which makes almost no sense to me because I always thought that the people in my demographic tried to stay away from supporting folks who pass off garbage as truth. I don’t know – I just don’t find the guy funny. And I don’t think he offers any relevant political “comedy” whenever he rants about how bad Republicans and conservatives are for the country. In fact, ranting and raving like that not only harms free speech in general, but it attempts to stifle serious debate among the country’s younger population.

Not good.

However, he did mention something the other night on his show that is, by far, the best thing I’ve ever heard him say. Here, take a look for yourself:

Again, I don’t really care for Stewart but he is on point here. What gives with the lack of Ron Paul coverage?! Look, I know that Paul’s campaign goes out of its way to spike the post-debate text message polls and stuff the audience members with their supporters, but that’s the way it is – why deny its existence? In fact, you might argue that Paul is getting the same treatment that the Tea Party received early on in their creation. Remember that? Remember when there were hundreds of thousands of people marching on Washington, DC and the media was like, “Oh? What? No, we don’t know anything about this Tea Party stuff. Are they racists?”

Why is Ron Paul getting that type of treatment? It’s bizarre. In fact, it’s the type of bizarre that makes people wonder about the media – how can every single news outlet deny the man’s existence when he’s clearly a front runner right now? Gah!

Since the biased media makes the Tea Party people look like racists, misogynists, lunatics, and crazy people, I thought that I’d show you this video that I saw on one of my buddy’s Facebook accounts the other day. Enjoy!

Talk about a bunch of dummies! Look, I don’t think that the entire crowd down there in Washington, DC over the last weekend were dumb people like you saw in that video. In fact, I know a few kids that went over to that rally and they are among the smartest young men that I’ve seen come through my fraternity. But I thought that this video should be posted to show everyone how easy it is to make a large “rally” out to be a bunch of crazy people and lunatics.

The latest in a long line of excellent YouTube videos that have shocked the liberal media and liberal intelligentsia while igniting the rest of society has been released! In the latest episode of Chris Christie’s Common Sense vs. Brainwashed Liberal Lies, the good Governor explains – in clear, simple English – what he did with his education reforms. Take a look below and see for yourself:

How great is Governor Christie? This guy speaks with the voice of all New Jerseyans who are sick and tired of the wimpy, petty bullshit coming out of the pansy teachers who think that because they hold a position of power in front of minors that they can treat the Governor like he’s a piece of garbage. This arrogant, rude woman that began to mock the Governor seconds after he began answering her overloaded question ought to be ashamed of herself! What did she think? That the Governor was some grade schooler that had to bow down and do as she said? Get real, woman! That’s probably why this arrogant, rude woman decided to become a teacher instead of going out into the private market – that type of rude attitude wouldn’t be tolerated for a split second in the job market!

Hey look – I didn’t like Governor Jon Corzine one bit. I thought he was an arrogant, limousine liberal who was completely out of touch with the everyday man and woman on the street. I thought that Governor Corzine was the epitome of arrogant during his time in office. Yet, when I spoke with him and when I went and listened to him talk, I would have NEVER treated him the way these liberal losers are treating Governor Christie. Who do these jerks think they are? Talk about “do as I say and not as I do,” huh? Good grief…

Governor Christie is the man. Thank God he is our Governor.

President Barack Obama had his first primetime press conference last night. If you watched, I wonder if you saw as interesting an event as I saw… Ha ha ha! Honestly, that press conference would have been off of my television if FOX had its normal Monday night line-up on!

Really, President Obama needs to liven things up a bit. We’re looking for change from him, not the same old boring “what the hell is he talking about?” crap! I will say, though, that it was nice to watch the President of the United States and not have to worry about him saying something that made absolutely no sense. On the other hand, while the rest of country goes crazy over Obama’s speaking style, I really, really hate it. I know that the biased liberal media will never publish a negative thing about his speaking style, but this man relies on “ehhh” and “ihhh” WAY too much when he talks. Go back and listen to the entire speech (if you can stomach it) and try to count how many times he interjects “ehhh” and “ihhh” in a single sentence. It’s alarming.

Again, the alternative could be, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…you can’t fool me twice.” Good grief.

But even as I take my own potshot at President George W. Bush, I have to say that it was a little gross that Obama cited the federal leadership of the last eight years as the reason for the current economic downturn. Look, I agree with the rest of the gang that the folks running the world down in Washington were a little goofed up, but that includes the Democrats, too. Further, the biggest perpetrators of our current problems were the greedy people on Wall Street and the ignorant people on Main Street. The root of this downturn is the devastated housing market. The root of the devastated housing market are people who were buying $500,000 homes when they could only afford $150,000 homes. The side-root of that same problem were the bankers who gave mortgages to people who couldn’t afford their homes!

Ugh…it’s not all about Bush! I had hoped that Obama would bring this country past the Bush derangement syndrome, but after his campaign-style speech last night, I guess that real change hasn’t come…yet.

Last week I was reading an article posted from RealClearPolitics.com entitled, “Slumdog Millionaire.” The title was intriguing so I had to read the article. You can go read it for yourself, but the author talks about a movie which details poverty in Mumbai, India. This is the part of the article that made me want to blog about it:

“Overall,” writes Heritage, “the typical American defined as poor by the government has a car, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a stove, a clothes washer and dryer, and a microwave. He has two color televisions, cable or satellite TV reception, a VCR or DVD player, and a stereo. He is able to obtain medical care. His home is in good repair and is not overcrowded. By his own report, his family is not hungry and he had sufficient funds in the past year to meet his family’s essential needs. While this individual’s life is not opulent, it is equally far from the popular images of dire poverty conveyed by the press, liberal activists, and politicians.”

“Nearly three-quarters of poor U.S. households own a car,” says the study, “31 percent own two or more cars. Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions. Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception. Eighty-nine percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and more than a third have an automatic dishwasher.”

In these times of economic hardship, it makes you wonder how desperate some of our fellow Americans really are… Hey, if someone can afford a microwave, stereo, car, color television, and some type of DVD or VCR player, then they can certainly afford to pay the rent or mortgage each month, right?

When read statistics like these, it just makes you wonder how “bad off” we really are during this recession.

We all have many reasons to be proud to be an American, but one of the top reasons why I’m proud is our proclivity to give to charitable causes even in the worst economic times. CBS News ran a story on their website the other day talking about how Americans are still donating money to nonprofit organizations even as their 401k accounts and discretionary income dollars are dwindling. From the article:

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University says that historically, charitable giving has been recession-proof.

Contributions to American charities have increased during 39 of the past 40 years in today’s dollars, and a change in the tax laws – not the stock market crash – can be blamed for the drop in 1987, said Melissa Brown, associate director of research for the center. Between 69 and 72 percent of people give routinely, she said.

The article goes on to talk about how some nonprofit organizations are cautiously optimistic about the potential donations for this year’s Christmas season. Believe it or not – we may be hearing about all of the horrible things going on in the auto industry and the banking sector, but Americans are prepared to give to charitable causes nonetheless. This will be an interesting phenomenon to watch – will Americans continue to give their scarce dollars to charitable causes even as the biased media runs around talking about the “horrendous” market conditions? I guess we’ll see.

There are only a few places that I donate my scarce dollars. The first place is my national fraternity’s foundation, which is (of course) helped by the fact that I am a Board member for the foundation. I began donating to some other causes like child cancer research and feeding the homeless, but I felt like my meager dollars were lost in a mess of bigger donations from bigger donors.

I’d like to find a small, locally-based nonprofit organization which is really helping to make a change in society – even if the geographic boundary of that “society” is defined as a single township or a single county in New Jersey, etc. I really think that a small nonprofit like that would be the perfect “project” for a donor to take on in terms of giving away money to help a specific cause. Unfortunately, those types of organizations really don’t exist in Monmouth County or my hometown up in Morris County, so there isn’t any opportunity like that – for now.

As we go out and purchase gifts for our loved ones this year, please remember to give a few dollars to a charitable cause if you can.

This one is too good to let up. I was flipping around the website of a local newspaper in Monmouth County and I came across an article that I had to share with the world. The name of the article? Monmouth University helps to open thrift shop. From the article:

Professor John Buzza has brought the Monmouth University Center for Entrepreneurship and students together with the RedeemHer Organization to open the thrift store. All proceeds from the store will be donated to the nonprofit organization RedeemHer.

Monmouth University students from Buzza’s entrepreneurship class are helping RedeemHer open the thrift store in Neptune, called Second Chances. The students and members of RedeemHer are involved in all aspects of the project, including creating a business plan, decorating, floor plans, sorting through donations, installing walls, public relations, marketing and staffing.

Wait. What? Is this an article that talks about how Monmouth University students are HELPING the community?! You know, from time to time I blog about the bias in the media, but that’s usually at a national level. There is also a bias in local media that is inherently anti-college student – but I’m sure you can understand why, right? Why would a newspaper – which is a dying breed to begin with – write articles that are pro-college students when the vast majority of those people living around college areas don’t like the off-campus population? It only makes sense that newspapers would be anti-college students, right?

Anyway, I’m glad that the Atlanticville has stepped out of the bunch and printed an article that praises some of the noteworthy work being completed by this particular class. This sounds like a good nonprofit organization and I’m sure that the students are getting one heck of an education by helping to build the business. Very impressive work on behalf of Monmouth University and a good article by the Atlanticville.

Though this post might be a bit early, all of the polls are suggesting that this Tuesday is going to bring big gains for the Democrats in the Congress. Oh, and then there’s that whole Presidential election, where it is likely that Barack Obama will bring the White House back to the Democratic Party. The Democrats are looking at holding a solid majority in the House, Senate, and the White House for the first time since 1992. And it’s looking more and more like the Democrats will wind up with 60 seats in the Senate after the election, giving them a filibuster-proof majority.

Halloween was yesterday, but this is a frightening proposition.

Now settle down my little extremist minded readers. I am not suggesting that this is scary because the majority of our government will be Democrats. Rather it is scary because one party will have complete control of the American government (the Supreme Court ideologies do not count). That’s not right. Of course, the Republicans have had this coming to them for a while now. The Republicans took over the American government and did not bring the change that the people wanted. It’s funny, though, how in the wake of President Bush’s second term the nation forgets about the Democratic scandals of the last two decades. It’s even funnier that this country is dominated by a vicious, disgustingly biased media. But I digress…

What will the Republicans do if they fail as miserably this coming Tuesday? Frankly, it’s time for the GOP to go back to the drawing board. They had their opportunity to make a difference in American government and they failed. I see two paths for the Republicans in the wake of a pending disaster on Election Day.

First, they can choose to take up a truly moderate position on all of the major issues. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has a think tank called American Solutions. This group has taken a variety of polls showing how 80% – 90% of Americans agree on certain issues. For example, polls show that 87% of Americans support English as the official language of the United States. Another example – 81% support greater use of domestic energy sources to fuel America’s future. Great.

The Republicans can choose to be the champions of these bipartisan issues and use this stance to win back some of the good graces of the American public.

The second direction the party can go from here is highly unlikely, but still a possibility. In short, the party can break up into various factions. Let’s face it, John McCain is not the same Republican as is George W. Bush; just as Elizabeth Dole is not the same type of Republican as Arnold Schwarzenegger; just as Christine Todd Whitman is certainly a different type of Republican than John Ashcroft. The fact is that there are too many different “types” of Republicans and this is a bad thing. Why is it a bad thing? Look at the current election cycle. There will be Republicans who lose Senate or House seats because there is an “R” after their name on the ballot. Sure, they may disagree with all of the policies of the current administration, but they’re about to get punished anyway.

Why not have a Conservative Republican party? Why not a Constitutional Republican party or a Traditional Republican party? Trust me, I understand why the power structures at the top of the Republican party would never allow this to happen (ca-ching!), but it might be time for the candidates (present and future) to take this party into their own hands. If you’re running as a Republican in San Francisco, guess what? You lose. But what if you ran as a candidate in a Liberal Republican party? What if you could disassociate with the stigmas and stereotypes of a nationwide organization?

With all of this being said, I have to say that I believe if Obama wins the election it will be very hard for him to win re-election. My reasoning is exactly the same as above. If the Democrats win the big majorities in the Congress, then it doesn’t matter who sits in the White House because the Senate Majority leader will rule the legislative agenda of the country. I believe that this country will experience a major shift to the left in the coming years and it might be too big of a swing for many to take. Obama needs to watch out for that if he’s sitting in the White House…but first he has to win the election.

Sorry, folks. I didn’t really watch the last Presidential debate so I can’t offer any insight as to who won and who lost. In my book, McCain won the first two and Palin vs. Biden was a draw or slightly in Palin’s favor given the amount of misinformation that Senator Biden put out there. But as for this last Presidential debate – frankly it’s all the same stuff over and over again with different words.

The election is in the hands on the media now, so we’ll likely see a build-up in Obama’s numbers heading into November. The media has anointed Senator Obama as the next President and that’s fine so long as America understands that we have a biased media and unless there are drastic changes (like the increasingly influence of an independent media through online channels), then we’re doomed. A news channel that would simply report factual news or even both sides of the same issues would be a huge success in this country. Oh wait, we already have FOX News and the brainwashed extremists think that it’s biased in favor of Republicans.

Isn’t weird how some Americans will ask for something, get it, and then condemn it?

Last night we had another debate between Senators McCain and Obama and it was pretty much more of the same. If you have to declare a winner, I’d have to go with McCain because the format really allowed him to engage with a national television audience in a way that he hasn’t been able to yet. Plus I thought the format really worked against Obama’s strength as a talking point reciter (not that being a talking point reciter is a bad thing, but it’s essentially all that Obama does). But everyone knows how these things go – the media will list Obama as the winner and cite McCain’s inability to slam a homerun during one of the debates.

Thank God I have an independent mind of my own to make up my own decisions! The amount of bias in the media these days is scary.

Anyway, if you really want to declare a winner last night it might have to be Tom Brokaw. Talk about a guy who managed to annoy almost everyone watching by being the only one who was doing his job correctly! That’s got to be a tough position for someone to be in – the straight man between two candidates for Presidents. And was it just me or did Brokaw look extremely white, pale, and aged?

All in all the debate was more bore than anything else. Neither of these candidates is going to put themselves out there and make a major statement during the debates, though McCain almost did with his statement regarding the Treasury buying up all of the bad mortgage debt out there. I am not a fan of this at all – nor am I a fan of this ridiculous bailout (which has so far led to the market falling further).

The real shame of our times is that neither McCain nor Obama have what it takes to fix the economy, yet these are the two choices that we are given. Third party anyone?

Anyway, check out Jersey City Locksmith for the best locksmith service in the Garden State!
