There was a pretty weird comment left on this entry which I chose not to post because the person who wrote it was clearly pushing an agenda (which I don't really have time for here). Plus, this is a personal blog - not a news source (I don't know how many times I have to write that, but here it is once again). This silly commenter was also suggesting that I was pushing the talking points of the far right - another sign that they clearly don't know anything about me or my political point of view! :-) But hey, the world has all types, right?

Anyway, the weird commenter did make one good point before they started spewing their bizarre, clouded ideological point of view. They suggested that I share the link to the anti-Semitic guy at the protests (in an effort to prove that I wasn't lying - which would be a weird thing to do, but hey - I did write that this commenter was weird!). So, here is a link to that video: http://youtu.be/l3Y9CARUwio

I'm going to comment on my own post because I thought that this was a great opportunity to push some of the same ideals that I probably share with some of the protestors, but in my own way. For example, I truly believe in the power of volunteering both as a way to express one's personal concern towards a community and for the power of the people to actually unite and create progress. If these protestors took their rage and anger and turned it towards volunteering in their communities, we might have a much less expensive society as well as a greater understanding of one another.

One of the great reasons why I volunteer for my fraternity is because of the final message in my post above. I cannot stand that the educational institutions have created a system where good, young people can enter an institute of higher learning and leave a few years later not knowing a thing about the real world. That's not fair to the student and it's not fair to those of us in the workforce who need intelligent, well-prepared young people to takeover our jobs and improve upon our work. Volunteering to help teach real world leadership strategies to the young men in my fraternity gives me an outlet to prepare a group of people for the reality of the world they are entering when they graduate. I only wish that there were other realistic mentors out there helping to prepare our college students for reality.

Because when there's not a system of people trying to bring reality to the college classroom, you wind up with useless, go-nowhere protests on Wall Street. For shame on the educational system. For shame.
