Thanks for the comment. Actually, I don’t think that I’m fully funding my retirement account opportunities (I don’t have an IRA, for example). I am, however, contributing 3% annually to my 401k. If I fully fund an IRA, can I count that on the 2010 tax form? Also, by how much might that reduce my tax liability?

Leigh Mutert with H&R Block here. I applaud your tax abilities! It never hurts to stay on top of the tax laws and their impact on your own finances, even if later you decide to work with a tax professional. The commenter above may be on to something. It’s great to increase your earnings, but there might be some tax deductions that you are overlooking, or some planning opportunities that you can take advantage of to reduce your liability. In addition to purchasing a residence, are you fully funding your retirement account opportunities?
It’s nice to hear from someone who understands the relationship between earnings and taxes, and has such a positive attitude!
