Hi Lee,

Until this type of abuse gets out in the greater public nothing will be done. Many years ago when I was an undergraduate at MU police officers literally walked into our home without knocking or any probable cause at all hours of the night. I'll never forget one night I was in my living room eating a peanut butter sandwich at like 2:30am on a Tuesday and two cops walked right by me. I looked over the couch and asked them what they were doing, they said, "Just checking," and walked out.

The main problem here is that no student has the time or resources to really press charges or file complaints against the police. And the actions of the OTPD are so outlandish that most parents (the source of these resources) look at their kids like they're crazy or over exaggerating, which is unfortunate.

My suggestion is to get an attorney for your house and talk to the attorney about filing specific complaints against the police if you feel you've been wronged. But I agree - it seems almost like a meaningless plight for the college students living in Ocean Township.

Good luck.

This article is great and I completely agree with everything in it. I recently went to a party, Monmouth based,(although I've barely been going out this semester) this past week and it got raided. The cops banged on all the doors in the house and raided everyone. I had barely been drinking and I asked the cops to give me any sort of test or even a breathalizer. They looked at me like I had 8 heads and ignored my request. The cops rounded us up and a large amount of students were allowed to leave and didn't get tickets and some successfully ran away while others hid in closets. They took my information and now I got a ticket in the mail and I'm due in court on the 19th. I don't even know what to do. The cops were really rude to us, even the compliant individuals. It's getting ridiculous.
