Back in 1956 when Monmouth college moved to the Shadow Lawn campus
I don't think anyone could have foreseen such growth in student population
or additional facilities. I do feel very sorry for the people that live near the campus.
It definitely seems like the University is determined to not only increase
in size but to make a large increase in the number of residential students.
All of this will add immensely to the congestion in years to come.
what I think should happen is that the university should attempt to raise
sufficient funds so that they could purchase at least another 100 acres of property adjoining the campus, tear down the homes and use that property
for both expansion and more open land. Of course the problem facing Monmouth is that
they have a hard time raising very large sums of private capital.
Basically what the university needs is a Walter Annenberg , a Bill Gates
or someone of that ilk who could really make a difference. I wish them the best of
luck.
