What's next - a tax everytime i shoot my load. Bottom line is the producers are being taxed to an unsustainable amount to support the non-producers. Any idiot who thinks we should tax more stuff shold move to France. Gym memberships - in this fat county we should be giving people rebates for joining gyms. As a local talk show host say - Liberalism is a mental disorder and Corzine, well, he's just a socialist prick.

Thanks - I studied this in school and I'm still not convinced, philosophically, that services should be taxed as sales are taxed. Despite my professor's best arguments I never believed that the procurement of one person or company's services should be taxed at the same rate as a good being purchased with cash.

That is one of my major problems with the current tax system nationwide along with the fact that I'll just never agree that a parking spot or gym membership should be taxed. A parking spot, built with taxpayer money, on taxpayer-supported land, which houses cars that get heavily taxed when purchased, that run on gas that is taxed, now is taxed to park? I think that's a bit much, no?

And I equate gym memberships to satellite radio. If a person opts to join a private organization, then where does the government get the gall to waltz in and say, "We're going to tax this." I think it's pushing the envelope WAY too far in the government's corner.

At this rate - we'll have a per-mile-driven tax in a few years!

I am NOT a Corzine fan, but there is a rationale for expanding the goods and services covered by sales tax. Services now account for 58% of Americans' consumer spending.

Here's a couple of links on the topic if you're interested.
