Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry Wins $100,000!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The Biggest Loser live finale is on tonight and even though I’ll probably fall asleep before it’s all over I had to come online and say how excited I was to see Jerry win the $100,000 “at home” Biggest Loser prize. Good for him! Here is a 64 year old man that lost 47% of his body weight. The man lost 47% of his body weight at an age where most people are either retired or a few months away from retirement!

That’s an amazing feat and one for which Jerry should be immensely proud of himself. And let this serve as a lesson to everyone else out there who is trying to get themselves into shape or begin living a healthier lifestyle. A man in his mid 60’s lost about half of his body weight. If he can do that, then the rest of us can suck it up and lose weight and/or begin living a healthier lifestyle.

Congratulations, Jerry!

The Perfect Service for Anyone Looking to Move

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

As many of you probably know, last summer I moved from Deal, New Jersey to Tinton Falls, New Jersey – both in Monmouth County. My roommates and I rented a gigantic U-Haul truck and loaded it up with our stuff to make a few trips back and forth between the old apartment and the new townhouse. I’m not sure if I went over it at this site or not, but I was so out of shape that after about an hour and a half of moving stuff, I had to call up some of the undergraduates in my fraternity to come over and do the moving for me! Hey, I paid those kids good money and they did an awesome job loading and unloading my stuff for me (and my roommates).

Which brings me to a website that I came across the other day called MoveMe.com. MoveMe.com helps people who are looking to rent or buy homes, move to a new home, or look for finance to take care of their homes. It is what you’d call a removal company – in other words, this is a company that will come to your place, prepare removal quotes to move you from one location to another, and then do the actual move for you. Talk about a service that I could have used over the summer! MoveMe.com provides a man and van power for your move – in other words, they’ll get you the manpower and the right vehicle to make your move a success!

Now, I should note that this service is for my readers based out of the United Kingdom so be aware of that as you consider whether or not you want to use this service. If you head over to the MoveMe.com site you’ll notice that there is a very intuitive interface. You enter your current postal code and which postal code that you’ll be moving to and then their internal engine does the rest for you. And bear in mind – this is a free removal quote for your consideration. I strongly suggest that, when you plan your move, if you’re over in the United Kingdom you consider using a service like MoveMe.com…and I say this as the voice of experience!

Now that I’ve found this site, I hope to find similar services in the United States. Lord knows that the next time I move, I’ll need a service like MoveMe.com to help me get the job done quickly, efficiently, and professionally!

More on Long Branch’s Redevelopment Process

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Finally, Kevin Brown has been removed as a squatter at 162 Broadway in Long Branch! The Asbury Park Press ran a story today talking about how the City of Long Branch has taken over the property. My favorite part of the story is below:

Jones said that after touring 162 Broadway, he came to a certain conclusion: If there was no redevelopment there, the city still would have condemned the building and demolished it, as an unsafe structure.

A portion of the ground floor, which had been home to a commercial tenant until late in 2007, was in the best shape, but the rest of the building was suffering from a lack of maintenance, he said. There were holes in the walls, ceiling, roof and windows, which had allowed rain to enter, deteriorating the structure further, and the items and materials that had been stored there were literally moldering where they sat.

Yeah…that’s not “blight” at all! Ha! What was most disturbing about this situation was the way that Brown tried to piggyback on the the MTOTSA folks – people who had a real gripe with eminent domain abuse. But (dare I say this), the legal system actually worked in this process! The MTOTSA organization won their battle against Long Branch (as they should have) and Brown lost his battle (as he should have). There is justice in this system!

For more background on this situation and some interesting comments from guests to this blog, feel free to visit a previous post on the subject.

A Genuinely “Good” Story

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

I always read the Asbury Park Press online before I leave for work in the morning. There’s always a lot of fun stuff in there to read about like the war, the local overzealous cops who think they’re defending America by taking away the civil rights of college students, and there’s always something about the scumbag who tried to defraud PNC Bank out of $25 million.

But there was a genuinely good news story put out today that I had to link on here because it was nice. This is the story about a guy who was born with cerebral palsy, but started going to a gym a few years ago and is now in much better shape. Take a read, it’s a good story.

Link has been removed since the Asbury Park Press removed the story.
