Oh Well…Susan Boyle 2.0 Is Upon Us

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

You knew this one was coming. A few weeks ago Susan Boyle broke onto the world stage and became an overnight internet sensation. She charmed the masses with her Plain Jane look and her powerful, angelic singing voice. Ms. Boyle presented the perfect combination of simplicity and talent that literally took the entire developed world by storm.

And now they’ve given her a makeover, damn it (take a look after the jump).

Too Many Social Networking Sites Out There

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Have you noticed that there are too many social networking sites out there these days? Between MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Twitter, Reunion, and any other number of “hey, look at me!” websites, keeping up with everything is beginning to get a bit tedious. In fact, just the other day I deleted my Plaxo account because I couldn’t imagine why I would need it at all. (more…)

It’s Important To Check Your Credit Report

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

The other day I went up to Roxbury to see my Mom and brothers and while I was up there my older brother went online to get his free annual credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com (not freecreditreport.com from the commercials, which actually does NOT give you a free credit report). The last time I checked all three of my credit reports was in December 2007 so after seeing my older brother pull his reports, I thought that now was as a good a time as any to do the same. Plus, in these uncertain economic times it pays to spend a few minutes checking your credit report to ensure accuracy.

And, as always, the credit report is an interesting thing. I should note that I didn’t ask for my credit score because 1) they charge you for that and 2) when I moved into the new apartment in the summer they ran a credit score on me and it was 790 – I’ll take that number any day! However, there were two discrepancies in my credit report that needed immediate attention.

First, the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (NJHESAA) once reported that I paid 30 days late on one of my student loans (back in 2006). The problem, though, was that the loan was still in deferment and was not due for payment at the time. Back in 2007 when I pulled my credit reports, I noticed this problem and called NJHESAA and while they agreed that this was a mistake on their part, they also said that they couldn’t contact the credit bureaus to have it fixed. So I contacted Experian to get the mistake removed from my report and they took it off without any problems. My mistake in 2007, though, was that I didn’t ask TransUnion or Equifax to remove the discrepancy. So when I pulled up my reports the other day – guess what was sitting there staring at me on those two reports. That’s right – the NJHESAA mistake strikes again!

I sent messages to both TransUnion and Equifax and as of today, Equifax removed the problem and TransUnion is still investigating. I pulled up my Equifax credit report to confirm that they fixed the mistake and I can confirm that they, in fact, did fix the problem. They were very quick and very efficient at addressing this problem.

The second interesting thing that I found on my credit report was an open credit card account that was actually a sub-account off of one of my mother’s credit cards from many years ago. This account was only reported on two of the three credit reporting agencies. Since this account was closed and replaced with a different sub-account (not for me), I submitted disputes with the two agencies that still listed it as open. To date, both agencies are still looking into this one.

The reason for this post is to encourage you to go online and check your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com. Even if you have excellent credit and a perfect credit history like I do, you may be surprised at what you find.

Dwight Howard Robbed In The Slam Dunk Contest!

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Even though I rarely post stuff about sports on the blog, I had to put up a quick post about how the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard was robbed in tonight’s Slam Dunk contest. The Slam Dunk contest is a part of the NBA’s All-Star weekend and it came down to the reigning champion Dwight Howard taking on Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks. Robinson’s big dunk was him “jumping over” Howard on his way to the slam, but anyone who looks at the damn tape can see that Robinson was about a foot and a half away from actually jumping over the guy. In fact, he landed somewhere on Howard’s shoulders and had to push himself off from there.

It was completely unimpressive.

Oh, and watching the Slam Dunk contest tonight reminded me of one of the reasons why I hate watching the NBA these days. The commentators are horrendous! I don’t know who was doing the play by play, but when Robinson came out in his green Knicks uniform with the green socks and the green shoes, the commentators lost all self-control and constantly made references to Lex Luthor and kryptonite. Why? Because Howard’s nickname is Superman. Get it? The other guy wore green and was competing against the guy nicknamed Superman. Get it? Green? Kryptonite? Makes Superman not super?

I was mildly amused at the references for the first thirty seconds, but after a few minutes of the mindless babbling it easily became the most annoying thing that I heard all week. Seriously – shut up. We get it. We’re not stupid.

Anyway, I don’t watch the NBA any more and I haven’t in years. But I have to admit that I was impressed by Dwight Howard’s performance tonight. Good job!

The Giants Win and Secure Home Field Advantage

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Derrick Ward lifted the New York Giants over the Carolina Panthers in an amazing game last night, broadcast locally on NBC. I was busy for the first few minutes of the first quarter, but I can’t remember watching a game that was so thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat since last year’s playoffs.

Derrick Ward was an all-star as he led the team rushing with 215 yards. The victory brings the Giants to 12 – 3 and positions them at the top of the NFC. This means that they get home field advantage in the playoffs and a first round bye. The Giants need to play more like they did in the last half of the game last night if they want to make it to the SuperBowl and I think the home field advantage will give them the extra umph that they need to go back to the big game.

Exclusive Interview with Amir Sadollah

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

The seventh season of UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter featured a lot of great fighters. However, there can only be one champion. At the end of a pretty intense season, it was Amir Sadollah who became the new Ultimate Fighter. TBLWrestling.com and XHeadlines.com recently had the chance to sit down with Amir for an exclusive phone interview. The discussion covered just about everything from the Ultimate Fighter – from life in the house, to the insanity of the Jesse Taylor situation, and everything in between! Amir shared some great personal inside and viewpoints that are must-hear! Unfortunately the audio quality is horrible in the first few minutes, but stick around and keep listening to this exclusive interview!
