Murder-Suicide Now Being Talked About in Benoit’s Death

Posted in Entertainment at 11:08 pm by Joe 2 Comments »

From AccessNorthGA.com:

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and 7-year-old son were found slain Monday at their Fayetteville home, authorities said.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide, but said that could not be confirmed until the evidence was examined by a crime lab.

WAGA reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself sometime Monday.

A concerned neighbor called police. The bodies were found in three different rooms.

The lead investigator, Sheriff’s Lt. Tommy Pope, told The Associated Press that the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and said the cause of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday.

Pope said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details about the deaths at the house in a subdivision near White Water Country Club.

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that Benoit, 40, his wife, Nancy, and son, who was named Daniel, were found dead, but also had no other details.

Benoit, a native of Canada, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

“WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy,” the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the “Vengeance” pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called “personal reasons.”

Benoit maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live “Monday Night RAW” card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

Benoit’s wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, “Woman,” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on its Web site.

They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing storyline on World Championship Wrestling, the newspaper said.

Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.

The federal-style house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and double-iron gate.

Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, and two uniformed officers.

This sad, tragic story continues…

Newsday put together a great article on the Chris Benoit tragedy that took place earlier today. Below is the text of that article - great job by the folks at Newsday. If you’re just tuning into the internet and trying to find out “what’s going on about Chris Benoit,” then this is the article that you want to read.

Renowned pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old-son, were found dead Monday afternoon in their Fayetville, Ga. home, Atlanta police said.

Police would not give any details on how Benoit, 40, his wife Nancy, and son Daniel died, other than to say they were not shot to death, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Monday. Authorities are investigating the deaths.

The news came just a day after Benoit mysteriously pulled out of a World Wrestling Entertainment pay per view event, during which he was expected to be crowned Extreme Championship Wrestling world champion. Various pro wrestling news sources reported that Benoit was unable to appear at the event due to a family emergency.

“There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities,” the WWE said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was a 22-year ring veteran and perennial favorite of wrestling purists, who praised his high-intensity style and technical acumen. His aggressive wrestling technique earned him the nicknames “The Crippler” and “The Rabid Wolverine.” In 2000 and 2004, he was named Oustanding Wrestler of the Year by the Wrestling Observer newsletter and in 2004 he was named Wrestler of the Year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine.

The Edmonton, Canada native trained to become a wrestler in Calgary, and honed his skills in Japan before becoming a regular on U.S. national promotions in the mid-1990s. Benoit’s career highlight took place in New York, when he won his first World Wrestling Entertainment world heavyweight championship in Madison Square Garden in the main event of WrestleMania XX.

Benoit cried as he celebrated in the ring with his wife and son, as well as best friend, wrestler Eddie Guerrero, who died in 2005.

“Wrestling has consumed my life,” Benoit said in a 2004 WWE career retrospective video. “Wrestling is my mistress. It’s my passion. It defines who I am as a person.”

WWE Monday night canceled its scheduled live 3-hour “Monday Night RAW” program, which coincidentally was originally billed as a “memorial service” for WWE chairman Vince McMahon, whose character was recently killed off in a controversial scripted storyline.

McMahon opened the show from center ring in an empty arena and clarified that Benoit and his family had died “in reality.” McMahon called Benoit “one of the greatest WWE superstars of all-time.”

Benoit, a 40-year-old Canadian native maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling.

Most recently, Benoit fought as part of the World Wrestling Entertainment organization. WWE canceled its live show in Corpus Christi Monday night, and its broadcast of “Raw” on the USA Network was a three-hour retrospective on Benoit’s career.

“Obviously, all sorts of speculation are running rampant but I have talked to so many people and nobody really knows [whether the couple was having marital troubles],” said Bryan Alvarez, who runs Figurefour Weekly, a wrestling newsletter and Web site, from Linwood, Washington.

Benoit was scheduled to appear in a pay-per-view title match Sunday night, but was a no-show due to a “family emergency,” the WWE said during the broadcast.

Benoit’s wife, Nancy, managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, “Woman.”

Soon after, the two became romantically involved in real life and married, Alvarez said.

Vince McMahon’s Limo “Death” To End Tonight?

Posted in Entertainment at 9:59 am by Joe No Comments »

There have been mixed reports going around that tonight’s WWE RAW will attempt to turn the “death” of Mr. McMahon into a comedy angle. Personally, I don’t see how they can do this with all of the time and effort (and interest) already invested in the storyline, but WWE has surprised people in the past with swerves.

The Fake Vince McMahon Limousine Explosion Death Hoax has been a hot topic on the internet lately. Over at TBLWrestling.com, Eddie has compiled an entire page dedicated to Vince McMahon coverage. I suggest checking it out to get your latest fix on all news relating to Mr. McMahon’s Death.

And for you morbid movie freaks out there who like to see death in one form or another, I recently put up a movie review for a pretty creepy horror movie that comes out tomorrow. I would check it out - I thought it was really good!

Will Vince McMahon Stay Dead For Long?

Posted in Entertainment at 8:47 pm by Joe No Comments »

The Vince McMahon Limousine explosion death hoax may be on its last legs. There are reports that after the tremendous amount of negative feedback from the fans, WWE’s writers are thinking of making this in a comical storyline as opposed to a serious one.

As you know, many fans were completely outraged when last week’s WWE RAW began with the fake death of Mr. McMahon and not the real loss of “Sensational” Sherri Martel. A great deal of these fans were further insulted when Sherri’s memorial was pushed back an hour and a twenty minutes into the show. This was poor, poor planning on WWE’s part and the backlash it is receiving from the fans proves it.

So is Vince McMahon alive? Is the evil Mr. McMahon character off of television forever? Some answers may come out of tonight’s Pay-Per-View. And if you’re not rolling in dough and can’t afford tonight’s PPV, why not check out the free coverage of WWE Vengeance 2007: The Night of Champions at TBLWrestling.com? All of the results that you need - and possibly some information on Vince McMahon’s “death” - will be there!

DVD Review: Dead Silence (Unrated)

Posted in Entertainment, Media Reviews at 3:27 pm by Joe 1 Comment »

Who doesn’t love a good horror movie? And who doesn’t think that wooden marionettes with their big bulbous eyes aren’t creepy? Same goes for creepy looking clowns (see below)! I had the opportunity to review a pre-released version of Dead Silence this weekend and I have to say that I enjoyed it. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of horror movies mainly because I feel there are too many swerves, but Dead Silence mixed great acting with an interesting story tied together by a family curse. Really good stuff here, folks.

In talking about this movie, first things first: Ryan Kwanten does an AWESOME job as Jamie Ashen, the main character of the film (pictured to the left). The movie starts with Kwanten undergoing a huge family loss (his wife is killed) - his search for answers occupies the remainder of the film. As you soon find out, he has been pegged as the main suspect in his wife’s death and he’s out to prove himself innocent. A lot of the suspense and drama in the film are the sole result of Kwanten’s performances. His facial expressions and deep breathing make one of the early scenes in a hotel room especially creepy. Many of the scenes actually show Kwanten with only a wooden doll to share the scene with. Being able to pull good performances out of a wooden co-star is pretty spectacular! Good job!

Also in this movie is former New Kid on the Block, Donnie Wahlberg. It is interesting that Donnie plays a detective since his brother, Mark Wahlberg, just got done playing a detective in the “Departed.” Regardless of what you thought about Mark’s performance, Donnie is just as good if not better in some respects in his role as Det. Jim Lipton in “Dead Silence.” I was pleasantly surprised by Donnie’s acting acumen.

Now this may sound weird, but one of the best features of this film was the camera work and the set design. I mean it was just magnificent. Good job to the director and production team all around. The camera work really did a great job of enhancing the suspense and drama of the movie and that’s a hard thing to accomplish.

The DVD also comes with some “extras” including an alternate opening and alternate ending as well as some commentary from the filmmakers. Just like everyone else out there, I like seeing a little something extra after a movie is over and these features along with the deleted scenes did not disappoint. And for you uber nerds out there, one of the extras is a timeline of how one scene goes from a CGI graphic to an actual scene in the movie - pretty interesting stuff, really.

The cover art on the box of the DVD says, “You Scream. You Die.” Such is the curse of Mary Shaw (Mary Shaw is the hottie in the photo above) - but why is the curse in existence? Who does it effect? How can it be stopped? How do Kwanten and Wahlberg all fit into this horror movie? Well folks, Dead Silence comes out on DVD this Tuesday, July 26th.

I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of this film and giving it a whirl one night. But before you do that, go to the top of this post and click on the movie’s official website - it’s pretty creepy and very well done. My favorite part of the site is the Dumm-E Mail you can send people. The people who are promoting this film sent me one and it’s pretty damn freaky (then again, I think that marionettes and clowns are scary as hell anyway). Once again, go out and get a copy of this movie - you won’t be disappointed!
