Nothing makes one stick to their New Year’s Resolutions better than having them known to the entire public! With that in mind, I want to talk a little bit about some of my New Year’s Resolutions and where they’re coming from.
First, many of you know that I have been on a quasi-diet (I don’t like to call anything a “diet” – that word sucks) since March 2004. In the past year I’ve burnt off 100 pounds, rendering myself back to my high school football weight (280). One of my primary resolutions for the coming year is to complete my weight loss regiment before 2006. It takes a lot of dedication, patience, and really hard work to lose mass amounts of weight and I believe that I’ve already proven that I have what it takes to lose the weight. So, by the end of this new year – I want to be done losing weight and settle at a maintainable level.
Now that I’ve skirted around the big issue (naming an actual weight to be by December 31, 2005), let’s move on!
Another one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to get to Church more often. Besides funerals and weddings, I can’t tell you the last time I went to Church on Sunday morning (or even Saturday night). I believe that going to Church is healthy for the mind and spirit – I like healthy minds and spirits.
Third, I’d like to become more financially independent in the coming year. I’ve already looking into different stock and bond investments, but I feel that I’m not maximizing my potential income right now without those options. The biggest hurdle that I have in moving towards financial independence are my fixed costs – my monthly car payment, my monthly cell phone payment, my monthly credit card payment…
If the coming year ends with me being free from at least one of those entrenched, fixed costs (looking at you credit card bill…and you’re next car payment), then I’ll be much happier in 2006!
Another resolution is to continue doing well in my Master’s program at Rutgers. I’ve managed to get 18 of the 45 necessary credits completed with another 21 planned through next Fall (that will increase by the end of this semester). I’m not sure about this past Fall’s grades, but if I had to guess, I probably got two A’s, a B+, and either a B- or a C+. Add that to my two A’s that I had from last spring and my GPA is kickass. Hopefully the new year will bring me more A’s and less asshole, scumbag professors who can’t teach and thus render me unable to get an A in their class!
I’ve got more resolutions – I’ll put them up in the coming days!
Also, I’ve got a new desk calendar that tells me “forgotten english” for each day of the year. I also have a calendar called, “Well, Duh!” that tells about some stupid things that go on in this world. I’ll try to put up some of the better things that I come across in these calendars in the coming year!
For the first forgotten english word, look above at the italicized “mood” variable above!
